This one man has therefore lost this hotel a lot of business by virtue of his rudeness and appallingly bad attitude. If he really is the manager, i hope his bosses read this review and take action, as i will now not be returning to this hotel again as a direct result of his bad attitude only - were it not for him, i would have stayed here again every week for the next few months, whilst i have business in Cologne and also recommended it to my colleagues, so they would have stayed here too. When advised we were not to know this and it was his problem to inform us in the first place and his staff's responsibility to ask for it at check in, he then complained about his own staff member and continued his tirade of unpleasantness, both with myself and my German colleague, who complained back at him for his lousy service in German I left this hotel feeling wound up and upset by the fact that what had up to that point been a lovely stay had been spoiled by this incredibly rude man. He then threw down the original paperwork his colleague had asked us to complete on arrival on the desk and started banging his fingers on it, complaining that my colleague and i had not completed all sections and provided the evidence which is apparently required for local tax needs in Cologne, basically blaming us for this being the case and stating that he would be liable as a result and this was all our fault. I repeated again that i told him that in the first place, several times. A few minutes later, another staff member appeared having obviously checked the room and he then confirmed all was fine in the room. I repeated again, now getting a irritated, that i had not. and said that they would check now, as if i had, i would be fined, again in an aggressive manner. He then asked again if i was sure that i hadn't smoked in the room, which i again repeated that i hadn't. I replied that i hadn't and that, as advised on arrival, the whole hotel was non-smoking and thus i had been given a balcony room, so that I could smoke outside with the door to the room closed, which i had of course done. On arrival, the young man on reception was very friendly and helpful, however on checking out the next morning, i received the worst front of house service ever encountered in any hotel i have stayed in across Europe, which are many, from a man i assume was the manager Firstly, he asked me, in a aggressive manner, if i had smoked in my (non-smoking) room, as i was down on their system as being a smoker and had requested one when booking. No tea/coffee making which would have been nice but not essential. Clean spacious room, with fridge (not stocked) and the room i was in had a balcony overlooking the courtyard. Lovely little hotel in the center of Cologne.
